3/4 Cup shortening 3/4 cup sugar 2 teaspoons salt 3 tablespoons yeast 2 1/4 cups water 3 eggs 7-8 cups flour Place shortening , sugar (reserve 1 tablespoon) and salt in bowl, pour hot water (reserve 1/2 cup) over shortening and dissolve sugar. The reserved 1 tablespoon sugar place in bowl with yeast and pour over the 1/2 cup water cooled to slightly warm. Mix the sugar, shortening, and salt, add 1 cup flour and mix, add eggs and yeast mixture. Add rest of flour 1 cup at a time until mixture seems thick enough. Place on floured suface and knead well, put in greased bowl to rise. When doubled in bulk work down and let rise again. |
